About this Class

Improvisation is more than a performance style—it is a powerful tool for rehearsal, training, and actor discovery. Acting on Instinct introduces the fundamentals of improv while helping actors become more spontaneous, connected, present, and responsive in their work. Through improv exercises, character exploration, and scripted scene work, actors will develop the core skills of listening, agreement, commitment, and building collaboratively while exploring relationship, objective, conflict, circumstances, environment, and the moment before. We’ll use improv to investigate characters and their lives beyond the page, uncover new possibilities within a scene, and bring those discoveries back into the text. The goal is to build a strong foundation in improvisation while becoming a more playful, instinctive, connected actor and making your scripted work feel like it’s happening for the first time, every time.
