About this Class

This workshop is for professional actors looking to refine their self-taping skills. Without the immediate adjustments of casting directors or film directors in the room, it is easy to become stale in your approach. We all know the feeling. A self-tape request comes through & suddenly you’re scrambling. Where will I shoot it? Who can read with me? Is there time to get off book? All of this, when we should be thinking about how to flesh out a character in 24- or if we’re lucky- 48hrs. This class will cover how to best set yourself up for success in those last minute tape requests. As actors, we often compartmentalize auditioning as a “separate animal” from working on a booked role. Auditioning IS a different animal, but that doesn't mean the fun of building a character should be absent in auditioning, quite the contrary! When we allow ourselves to get excited about character development, textual analysis, and the fun of creating, this is fertile ground for making magic onscreen. This class is meant to stimulate your creativity, in focusing on all of these essential elements, and coming up with strong, bold choices, individually crafted to help each actor shine. We’ll focus on reenergizing your process by diving into: *Textual Analysis: annotating every detail we can learn about the character and their world/genre *Character Development: making the strongest choice *Keeping a fluid mind/body connection in the scene *Preparation Techniques: learning how to do all the hard work ahead of time, so when it’s time to shoot- you’re ready to play! Maybe there is a role you really loved, that you read for and didn’t quite feel you had a good hold on the character? Bring those sides. Or maybe you have new sides and the weekend to make a tape? Let’s help you get that job! There is also the added benefit of learning from others by watching their process in real-time on a monitor, a La video village. Learning through observation can be an extremely helpful tool in our industry. Haley Strode is an actor, writer, and singer. Known equally for her comedic skill and powerful dramatic work, she has racked up a significant list of roles that highlight her tremendous range as an actress. Her latest role is in a Sundance Audience Award Winning film, in which she plays a young mom suffering from drug addiction. Haley has been a series lead in a multi-cam sitcom, a recur on ABC's ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB, with many other highlights and genre’s in between.
